Classifying the Clique-Width of H-Free Bipartite Graphs

چکیده
Let G be a bipartite graph, and let H be a bipartite graph with a fixed bipartition (BH ,WH). We consider three different, natural ways of forbidding H as an induced subgraph in G. First, G is H-free if it does not contain H as an induced subgraph. Second, G is strongly H-free if G is H-free or else has no bipartition (BG,WG) with BH ⊆ BG and WH ⊆ WG. Third, G is weakly H-free if G is H-free or else has at least one bipartition (BG,WG) with BH 6⊆ BG or WH 6⊆WG. Lozin and Volz characterized all bipartite graphs H for which the class of strongly Hfree bipartite graphs has bounded clique-width. We extend their result by giving complete classifications for the other two variants of H-freeness.

Chordal bipartite graphs of bounded tree- and clique-width
A bipartite graph is chordal bipartite if every cycle of length at least six has a chord. In the class of chordal bipartite graphs the tree-width and the clique-width are unbounded. Our main results are that chordal bipartite graphs of bounded vertex degree have bounded tree-width and that k-fork-free chordal bipartite graphs have bounded clique-width, where a k-fork is the graph arising from a...
متن کاملBounding the Clique-Width of H-free Chordal Graphs
A graph is H-free if it has no induced subgraph isomorphic to H . Brandstädt, Engelfriet, Le and Lozin proved that the class of chordal graphs with independence number at most 3 has unbounded clique-width. Brandstädt, Le and Mosca erroneously claimed that the gem and the co-gem are the only two 1-vertex P4-extensions H for which the class of H-free chordal graphs has bounded clique-width. In fa...
متن کاملClique-Width for Graph Classes Closed under Complementation
Clique-width is an important graph parameter due to its algorithmic and structural properties. A graph class is hereditary if it can be characterized by a (not necessarily finite) set H of forbidden induced subgraphs. We initiate a systematic study into the boundedness of clique-width of hereditary graph classes closed under complementation. First, we extend the known classification for the |H|...
متن کاملOn the linear structure and clique-width of bipartite permutation graphs
Bipartite permutation graphs have several nice characterizations in terms of vertex ordering. Besides, as AT-free graphs, they have a linear structure in the sense that any connected bipartite permutation graph has a dominating path. In the present paper, we elaborate the linear structure of bipartite permutation graphs by showing that any connected graph in the class can be stretched into a "p...
متن کاملOn the Complete Width and Edge Clique Cover Problems
A complete graph is the graph in which every two vertices are adjacent. For a graph G = (V,E), the complete width of G is the minimum k such that there exist k independent sets Ni ⊆ V , 1 ≤ i ≤ k, such that the graph G obtained from G by adding some new edges between certain vertices inside the sets Ni, 1 ≤ i ≤ k, is a complete graph. The complete width problem is to decide whether the complete...
